Biografía

Unai Izquierdo (Santurtzi, 1981) is an actor, dramatist and journalist. Having graduated in Dramatic Art at the ESAD in Malaga, he also studied Journalism and holds the EL CORREO-UPVC/EHU Master's in Multimedia Communication. In the theatre world he has studied under such names as François Lecoq, Konrad Zschiedrich, Georges Laferrière, Cristina Rota, Teatro de La Abadía, Marta Schinca and Perla Jaritonsky. In the vocal field he trained with the phoniatrician Susana Ruiz and the speech therapist Karmentxu Pérez, and singer Nuria Orbea. He has taught performance at the BAI stage school, and has spent more than 10 years giving oral expression classes on the EL CORREO-UPVC/EHU Official Journalism Master's course. As an author, he has written a number of stage plays: 'Náufragos’, premièred in 2016 at the Teatro Arriaga and directed by Felipe Loza; ‘Dalí en blanco y negro’, premièred in 2015 at Pabellón 6 (Bilbao), ‘Buenas noches, madre’, premièred in 2014 and still on tour, and ‘Gente extraordinaria’, premièred in Bilbao in 2016, ‘¡Qué Fuertes lo de Gloria!’, a text based on his own life, and premièred at Pabellón 6 in 2017. In October 2018 he premièred ‘Ocaña’, a work about the popular painter from Seville at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao. ​ As an actor he has taken part in numerous international festivals (Edinburgh, Brussels, Ostend, Amsterdam, Brno, Scarborough, Bilbao and Kosovo) with the production 'Was Mona Lisa una lámpara?', which in 2006 received the Sken Up Festival International Award in Kosovo. He has also starred in such other stage productions as 'Cabaret Chihuahua' (5 seasons of performances), 'Juana de Arco en la hoguera', together with Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, 'Rossini y el viento del sur', together with the Arsian Ensemble orchestra (six seasons touring Andalusia), 'Put Vieja Alcahueta Celestina' by Maite Agirre, ‘Náufragos’, premièred at the Teatro Arriaga in 2016, 'La materia de los sueños' by Antonio Jesús González, and was a member of the Teatro Estable company in Malaga for a number of years, featuring in dozens of stage productions.
